When the Kia Sorento Plug-In Hybrid 2023 goes on sale, it will be, like many things today, more expensive than ever. The new pricing coincides with the automaker changing its trim lineup to eliminate the SX PHEV, leaving only the SX-P (Prestige). It will start at $51,185.
That’s a pretty big upgrade from the Sorento PHEV SX coming out for 2022, which starts at $46,165. Both prices include Kia’s destination fee, but the company also increases it by $100 for 2023, to $1,295. Last year’s SX Prestige plug-in hybrid started under the $50,000 mark at $49,065.

The Sorento PHEV SX-P comes with conveniences such as retractable rear windows and safety features such as rear-traffic collision avoidance technology. Other safety features include lane following assist, driver attention warning, forward collision avoidance assist, surround-view monitor, and more.
It has ventilated and heated front seats, a powered tailgate, a Bose 12-speaker premium audio system, a panoramic sunroof, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment screen.
Kia gets its power from a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that produces a combined output of 261 horsepower (195 kilowatts) and 258 pound-feet (350 Newton-meters) of torque. Kia paired it with a six-speed automatic transmission. The electric powertrain allows the Kia to travel up to 32 miles on a single charge, taking 3.5 hours to recharge with a Level-2 charger.
The Sorento 2023 lineup also creates a significant gap between the regular and plug-in hybrid variants. The Sorento Hybrid SX 2023 starts at $37,885, while the high-end Sorento Hybrid SX-P starts at $43,685. Kia also revamped the Hybrid lineup by eliminating the entry-level S trim, increasing the Hybrid’s MSRP by $2,500.
The fourth-generation Kia Sorento arrives new for 2021, and the automaker is already preparing a mid-cycle refresh of the crossover. Camouflage and cladding hide the revamped model’s revised design, but the powertrains under the new sheet metal shouldn’t change much. We expect the hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants to continue. The revamped Sorento is not expected to arrive until the 2024 model year, and we may see prices rise again.
