The 2022 Toyota Tundra with a four-door crew cabin body received the Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Tundra 2022 gets Good rating in all IIHS crash testswhich is the agency’s highest score.

The LED reflector headlights on the SR, SR5, and Limited trim get an Acceptable score. The LED projector on the Limited with Premium, Platinum, 1794, TRD Pro, and Capstone grade plans received a Good rating.
The Tundra standard front collision prevention system scores Superior in vehicle-to-vehicle and daytime vehicle-to-pedestrian tests. The nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian test gets an Advanced rating.
Tundra 2022 is a new generation of pickups. The IIHS rating is a huge improvement. The 2021 model has a Marginal rating in the driver’s small overlap test and a Poor score in the passenger-side version of this evaluation. The headlights have a Marginal result.
To be awarded the Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+, a 2022 vehicle must achieve a Good score in all IIHS crash evaluations. Other requirements include a front collision prevention system available with an Advanced or Superior rating and headlights with a Good or Acceptable score. To get the Plus honor, Good or Acceptable headlights must be a standard feature.
IIHS makes it harder for vehicles to earn awards in 2023. The side-impact barrier now weighs 4,200 pounds instead of 3,300 pounds, and travels at 37 mph instead of 31 mph. A vehicle can earn an Acceptable score and still qualify for the Top Safety Pick, and the Plus award requires a Good rating.
There is also a new nighttime pedestrian accident prevention test. Advanced or Superior scores are required for Top Safety Pick+.
Finally, vehicles in 2023 require standard Good or Acceptable headlights to qualify for the Top Safety Pick.
