Queen Elizabeth II died today at the age of 96. She is Britain’s longest-serving monarch, reigning for 70 years. Born on April 21, 1926, as Princess Elizabeth of York, she ascended the throne in 1952 at the age of 25. He celebrated the Platinum Jubilee earlier this year.
Many automakers took to social media to mourn his death and offer their condolences. Aston Martin shared on Twitter that Queen was “a passionate champion of British culture, company and innovation.” Jaguar and Land Rover shared the same message on their respective social media accounts, extending their thoughts and condolences to the Royal Family.

Lotus, Lister, Caterham and Morgan also took to social media to share their thoughts. Lotus called him “an incredible role model to people around the world,” while Vauxhall called his 70-year reign an “inspiration to all.”
Ford Chief Executive Bill Ford also released a statement on Queen Elizabeth’s passing, extending his condolences to the Royal Family, and the people of England and the Commonwealth. In his statement, Bill said that his death deeply saddened him. “The Queen has been a staunch and exemplary world leader” demonstrating “the true meaning of service and dedication.”
While His Majesty was royalty, he joined the British Army during World War II. He drove ambulances and learned how to repair heavy trucks while on duty, which led to a lifelong love of driving and a special fondness for Land Rovers. He was seen late last year driving alone around the grounds of Windsor Castle in a green Jaguar wagon. He has been seen many times driving alone, often behind the wheel of a custom Land Rover.
