After some rumors it is now official, the Ford Fiesta will cease to occur in June 2023, thus, one of the company’s oldest models will be replaced by an EV version of the Puma, to be built in Craiova, Romania. The American manufacturer shared a moving video two minutes to say goodbye Party and reveal a preview of the Cougar EV.
Ford reveals Fiesta will go out of production in 2023
The Party it has been on sale for 47 years, in nine generations. Current production takes place in Cologne and Ford says that only the five-door version of the hatchback it will continue to roll off the assembly line until June of next year. Customer orders will be built and the manufacturer will keep the order books open until the remaining production volume is completed. In the same way, it will stop manufacturing the Fiesta ST hatchback in 2023.
The end of Fiesta production will mark the end of ICE engine production at one of Ford’s largest factories outside of USA. The Colonia plant will be transformed into the Colonia Electrification Center, where a new crossover battery-powered mid-size from the following year. Ford wants to reach 1.2 million electric vehicles produced at that plant in the next six years. In addition, production of the company’s 1.0-litre EcoBoost three-cylinder engine will be moved to the engine plant in Craiova.
The Ford Fiesta The original was launched in 1976 and since then, more than 18 million units of the hatchback have been built and delivered worldwide. The Fiesta has been manufactured in at least 13 different countries including the UK, Spain, MexicoArgentina, Brazil, South Africa and more.
Although, it is sad to see that one of the most beloved models of Ford leaves the scene, the manufacturer is confident that the future lies with electric mobility and wants to “fully participate” in electromobility “at an accelerated pace”. As a result, it will launch three new 100% electric passenger cars and four electric commercial vehicles in the Europe by 2024.
Earlier in the year, the manufacturer also discontinued the Mondeoone of Europe’s most beloved D-segment models, but Ford says it will have at least one plug-in or all-electric model in every car segment on the continent from 2026.
