The Porsche 911 Turbo S is the all-wheel drive performance monster that drives the model. A new video from the Digas Official YouTube channel pits one against a modified BMW M140i that produces more power, but only drives the rear wheels, making for an interesting fight.
On paper, the Porsche 911 Turbo S is running out of steam. That makes 580 horsepower (432 kilowatts) from the twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-six engine. Power is sent to all four wheels via the brand’s seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. It tipped the scales at 3,527 pounds (1,600 kilograms). The BMW M140i produces 700 hp (521 kW) from the BMW tuned 3.0-liter inline-six turbocharged engine. It only powers the rear wheels and is lighter than a Porsche too, weighing in at XXX lbs (1,475 kg). It has a modified turbo, fuel pump, gearbox and limited-slip differential.

With its all-wheel drive, Porsche has a huge advantage in standing-start drag racing. It exploded from the starting line on the first lap, leaving the BMW in the dust. The second race gave BMW a 10-car lead, but the Bimmer’s RWD was no match for Porsche’s powerful all-wheel drive system, which negated BMW’s lead within seconds of starting. Porsche went on to win the second race.
The Porsche completed the quarter mile in 10.75 seconds at 131 miles per hour (XXX kilometers per hour). The BMW took 11.27 seconds but matched the speed of the Porsche trap.
The rolling race is where BMW shines, pulling away from Porsche from the start. The much greater power of the M140i is visible at full view. The second rolling race gave Porsche a slight edge, but the more powerful BMW caught up with the Porsche and passed it just before the two crossed the finish line.
Drag race shows that having more power is meaningless if you can’t put it all on the ground. The Porsche 911 Turbo S is an unrivaled rocket from the starting line thanks to its all-wheel drive. However, BMW’s extra power is not something competitors should ignore.
