Don’t try to imitate this Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport skid at home

A drifting Bugatti is as spectacular as it is expensive, but the occasion deserved it. The Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport has had no problem ‘destroying’ the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R that were created specifically for it. The reason? starring this video, dubbed ‘Drifting The C’ to celebrate that its production has reached the equator: 30 of the 60 copies that will be manufactured have already been delivered to their owners.

The video starts with Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport warming up before taking action. After the first few seconds, we see it pick up speed before the driver (Sven Bohnhorst, Bugatti’s lead chassis and development engineer) spins the wheels and puts the throttle up to perform an impressive drift maneuver.

Not an easy manoeuvre: smoke from all four tires means there is very little grip and that requires a precise combination of steering and throttle to doing something that for most would be out of their reach and control. The slight humidity on the asphalt obviously also helped.

Bugatti’s ‘C’

After the hypnotic slow-motion images, an aerial shot reveals the result of the skid: the tires of the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport they drew a ‘C’ on the track. Obviously, the layout was not accidental: it represents the ‘C’-shaped line that can be recognized in the profile of the French brand’s models. It is, along with the iconic horseshoe-shaped grill, one of its characteristic design elements.

The Bugatti ‘C’ has been present on many models since the 1920s, but in the case of the Chiron it has grown in size to become a prominent feature that runs from the A-pillar to the large side intakes. Not surprisingly, the molding used to draw that sideline is 2.8 meters long and it is made, by the way, with a unique aluminum alloy.

Ready for the tracks

The maneuver was carried out in a closed track free of obstacles. The objective was also to carry out a test to show the capacity of the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport’s all-wheel drive system.

It should be remembered that this model was presented a couple of years ago, in 2020, as the circuit-oriented variant. In its bowels it carries the famous 8.0-liter W16 with four turbochargers, which develops 1,500 horsepower and has a maximum torque of 1,600 Nm. Chassis and aerodynamic settings have been tweaked to provide better handling, more downforce and lighter weight. With these features, it is capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.3 seconds, from 0 to 200 km/h in 5.9 seconds and from 0 to 300 km/h in 11.9 seconds. Its top speed is 350 km/h.

The Molsheim production lines will soon end production of the Bugatti Chiron range: They have already manufactured 400 of their 500 units. As we await the next chapter in the brand’s history, we can always enjoy the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport. drifting… which is something you don’t see often.
