In 20 years many things can change. And if we talk about the Porsche 911, the technical evolution of the model has been more than remarkable. In 2002, the 911 for sale were the 996, the first to receive liquid cooling. Their Turbo versions They equipped all-wheel drive and had 420 CV. They were tremendously effective cars, but some wonder if they would measure up to a modern Porsche 911. In order not to make things too difficult for the youngtimer, they have chosen a Basic Porsche 992, a 385 hp Carrera and two drive wheels.
On paper, the battle should be very even.. The 996 Turbo boasts 420 hp, 560 Nm of torque and a 0 to 100 km/h time of only 4.2 seconds in its manual version. However, the contemporary Porsche 911 Carrera is 60 kilos lighter, although it has 35 HP less and a lower torque, 450 Nm. Even so, its 0 to 100 km/h is identical to that of the old Turbo, thanks to its eight-speed dual-clutch PDK gearbox. Jason Plato, on a small circuit, praises the efficiency of the 996’s all-wheel drive, as well as its cornering and balance.

However, the new 911 surpasses the 996 in efficiency and cornering, thanks to a three-generation more modern platform, state-of-the-art electronics and one of the best automatic transmissions of history. Although in pure acceleration both cars may be equal, not even a wet track has played in favor of the Porsche 996. In a circuit of just 1.6 km, the time of the 992 has been 44.73 seconds, compared to 47, 79 of the 996. A difference of three seconds, on a layout like this, is a whole world.
A world that reflects the 20 years of technical evolution and three generations that separate both cars. The beating has been historic.
