One of the definitive spicy utilities was -and is- the Abarth 500, a car that offers you a lot for little money. But it was a few months ago when those of the scorpion wanted to go one step further with the new Abarth 500e, a 100% electric variant that, although it does not replace the 595 and 695 gasoline, makes its intentions clear. And he reaffirms them with the announcement of a price of 36,000 euros for the Spanish market and a range of only 250 kilometers.
Although both data must be taken with tweezerssince the price is with the MOVES III Plan applied in its entirety and autonomy is approved under the WLTP cycle. What does this mean? That the disbursement may be of a less affordable 43,000 euros if we do not receive the help of MOVES and that in not only real use, but intense use, those 250 kilometers are going to be drastically reduced.
36,000 euros with MOVES III and a range of 250 kilometers for the new Abarth 500e
In his defense it must be said that, for the moment, this price corresponds to the release version named Scorpionissima, and that is responsible for offering generous standard equipment. This is made up of elements such as LED headlights, blind spot detector, lane warning, alcantara upholstery, sports cut seats and sound synthesizer among others.
This means that later on, and as is the case with the Abarth combustion range, we would find not only more modest trim levels willing to lower the final bill, but also with more and less powerful mechanics. In this way, it would not be unreasonable to find an Abarth 500e with the same power as its Fiat counterpart but with a specific design, better equipment and finishes.
The same could happen with the higher ranks, which would be completed with higher powers, more aggressive setting and even more restrained autonomy. And that’s where it lies one of the biggest problems of the new Abarth 500ewhich are the 250 kilometers of autonomy that it declares compared to the 320 that the Fiat 500e offers in its top-of-the-range variant.
We are talking about a figure that is more than enough to cover our urban journeys without too many inconveniences, but that can also be done not only with more efficiency by the Fiat 500e, but also for less money. And if what causes the balance to decline in favor of the scorpion is that it is better for our section of confidence curves, autonomy is a drag in that environmentbeing a more sensible option to fulfill this task the gasoline Abarth 500 despite the 154 CV and 235 Nm of torque declared by the electric one.
Regardless of this, we will have to wait and see how the other variants of the Abarth 500e are positioned, both in equipment and in power and price. And it is that we are facing a move that the Italian-French consortium will have to execute with caution, since otherwise they risk cannibalizing sales between this and its equivalent in Fiat.
