Ford hasn’t given up on releasing a teaser of the next-gen Mustang ahead of its September 14 debut. The audio clip starts with the engine reaching high revs and then descends through gear. The sound indicates the car is on track or may be downshifting when decelerating for cornering.
This definitely sounds like a V8 version of the new Mustang. The gearshift speed makes us think this car has an automatic gearbox, but we know the new pony cars have the option of a manual transmission.
The last Mustang teaser showed off the new GT badge with the word Performance in the letters. This may be Ford’s way of hinting at a new trim level slot over the existing GT model. ‘The existing handlebars are available with the optional GT Performance Package with upgraded brakes and retuned suspension, so perhaps the company will go one step further for the next generation of vehicles.
The final teaser also offers a hint at the rear styling of the new Mustang. The rear deck is body-colored between the taillights, while this area is black on the current model.
Rumors point to the launch of the new Mustang with a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 version and a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. Judging from the teaser, the V8 has some exhaust tuning to make it sound more ferocious than the current engine. There’s no info yet on an increase in horsepower or torque.

In terms of styling, spy shots and renderings give us a hint of what to expect from the new Mustang. The general design is familiar with the use of a long hood and a short rear deck.
