Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato, the Quadrifoglio coupé comes true with a 540 hp V6 and manual gearbox

The most anticipated sports car from Alfa Romeo in a long time has come true. Under the name of Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato, a new coupé is once again signed by the names of Alfa Romeo and Zagato, thus paying homage to an illustrious common past that reaches 100 years of relationship. we are before a complete reinvention of the Giulia Quadrifoglio to make it a hyper-exclusive coupéAlthough don’t get your hopes up too much with this car, because Zagato will only make one unit and it already has an owner.

It was in 2021 when the Italian coachbuilder Zagato started working on the Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato., a project that started with the approval of a German collector who owns different Alfa Romeo and Zagato classics, since he would be the one chosen among many collectors to get hold of such an exclusive car. Taking into account that the collaboration between both firms celebrated its centenary in 2021 (started in 1921 with the Tipo G1), Zagato wanted to recall the spirit of cars like the Alfa Romeo SZ (based on the Alfa Romeo 75), but based on the current Alfa Romeo Giulia. And thus, after almost two years of work, the Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato is the materialization of this whim.

Zagato has taken as a starting point an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifogliocutting its wheelbase, transforming it into a two-seater coupe and creating a completely new bodywork made entirely of carbon fiber. It should be noted that although Zagato has led the way in this transformation, Alfa Romeo has taken part in this redesign with its stylistic director in the lead, the Spanish Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos.

Aesthetically, this Giulia SWB has nothing to do with any other current Alfa Romeomixing nods to creations such as the SZ or TZ, the classic signature double bubble roof at Zagatothe two-tone bodywork or the design of the Kammback type rear recalling the silhouette of the TZ. It is also fair to highlight the design of the rear lights, a continuous LED signature encompassing the entire rear view and which is completed at the bottom with a diffuser protagonist with dual akrapovic exhaust in the middle.

The front comes to life with a sizable biscione, but where the Alfa Romeo logo appears drawn on the interior grill. Two large air intakes accompany the manufacturer’s shield, sheltering inside some LED optics that have been borrowed from the Tonale. The hood now opens forward, integrating air vents and merging with wings that recover the triangular air vents that were also used by the 8C Competizione.

From a technical point of view, Zagato has not revealed the dimensions of this coupe, limiting itself only to pointing out that the 2.9 V6 Twin-Turbo engine is the employee in the GTA and GTAm, which translates into a maximum power of 540 hp. Of course, unlike these, the Giulia SWB Zagato uses a 6-speed manual transmission, a box of changes that was available in the Giulia Quadrifoglio during the beginning of its commercialization. Traction is carried out on the rear train by means of a self-locking differential.

The interior has been redesigned to bring to life a strict two-seater configuration. The bulk of the controls and elements of the Giulia cabin have been preservedbut carbon fiber, leather, alcantara and green motifs have also been used to provide the extra exclusivity that such a car requires. The seats, made of carbon fiber, are semibaquet signed by the firm Sabelt.

Zagato has not revealed the price of this creation, but it has confirmed that Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato will only be manufactured a single unit. Thinking of a number of six or seven figures does not sound too far-fetched, especially if we take into account that the Giulia GTAm was marketed for 199,500 euros in Spain. The delivery of this collector’s item has already taken place, also taking place at the “La Pista” circuit in the town of Arese, very close to the Alfa Romeo museum.
