Bugatti has built and delivered some of the world’s most stunning and powerful cars ever assembled by an automaker. Veyron and Chiron are icons that gave birth to various special editions and other unique models. Bugatti appears to be teasing one such car to unveil this weekend, and it looks like that’s a vehicle that never went into production. What did Bugatti do?
The single teaser image shows off what appears to be a modified Bugatti Chiron hiding under a black cloth. Adding to the mystery was a caption that read, “Automotive solitaire that never reached production,” and no, Bugatti wasn’t talking about the card game Microsoft made famous. “Solitaire” is also a word that means a gem that stands alone, like a diamond – or a special Bugatti.
The cover hides the more subtle Bugatti-style details, but the C-shaped greenhouse is impossible to miss, with the creases clearly visible in the bedspread. The truncated rear of the car is also reminiscent of the Chiron, but this one seems to have some sort of wing or spoiler hanging off the back. Lightening the image in Photoshop reveals no additional design details, with the front of the car heavily hidden in the shadows.
The cloth covering hides another styling change that Bugatti has done to this vehicle, but luckily we won’t have to wait long to find out. It looks like Bugatti will debut the model this week – on December 21 – with RM Sotheby’s, the auction house. It’s unclear whether Bugatti plans to auction it off or why RM is involved, all of which adds to the mystery of the car.
Bugatti Rimac is already charting its next chapter, with a new hypercar in development. According to company CEO Mate Rimac, the new model will come with an “absolutely insane” internal combustion engine, and it will have no connection to the Chiron or Rimac Nevera. The automaker won’t reveal until next year, likely going on sale in 2025 as it completes deliveries of the Mistral and Bolide, the last models mentioned on the Chiron hypercar.
