Can a €5m Bugatti Divo beat a Tesla in a drag race?

The Bugatti Divo has been one of the most exclusive and sporty derivatives of the Bugatti Chiron. Its design was clearly differentiated, it equipped the evolution of 1,600 CV of its 8.0 W16 engine with four turbos and had a price of 5 million euros before taxes. The 40 units manufactured had an owner before production began. Many Divos will be garage divas – pardon the pun – and barely rack up the miles. This is not the case of the Bugatti Divo in the video, which has decided to stop by the Yas Marina Drag Way.

A drag racing track at the Abu Dhabi Circuit. On paper, the Bugatti Divo is capable of doing 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.4 seconds and its top speed is 380 km/h. And on paper, a Tesla Model S Plaid may be faster. The electric car has “only” 1,020 CVbut the power delivery of its three engines is instantaneous and it has shown that it is capable of doing quarter miles in around nine seconds.

As bad as it weighs us, a saloon of 140,000 euros has humiliated one of the best hypercars in history.

To prove this theory, the guys from Drag Times have driven a Bugatti Divo in several confrontations against the most popular electric of the moment. And the truth is… the Bugatti has not been able to with the Tesla in any of them. Neither in a drag race with a flying start nor in a quarter-mile battle in which the Bugatti’s Launch Control did not work properly. When it worked properly, though, the Divo clocked a sub-9.5-second quarter mile, a spectacular figure and a track record for production combustion vehicles.
