While DeLorean showed off its Alpha5 to folks at Pebble Beach, the company offered a glimpse of two other interesting concepts at the nearby DeLorean House. The Alpha5 Plasmatail 2024 and Omega 2040 offer a vision of the near and far future for the brand. Given the name, does this also signify the beginning and end of a reborn automaker?
We will leave such interpretation to others and focus on the vehicle instead, i.e very differ in their implementation. The Plasmatail Alpha5 is essentially a shooting brake version of the Alpha5, and yes, it will go into production alongside the coupe in 2024. Given that the Alpha5 already features a stretched fastback design, the Plasmatail doesn’t look much different. The roof has a shallow slope that connects to the more upright rear hatch.

As a result, the rear pillar is slightly higher, but the rest of the car looks like a standard Alpha5. Yes, that includes the gullwing doors, and from what we see in the renderings, the rear hatch can be hinged nicely to the roof to create a sizable opening.
As for the Omega 2040, it’s not heading into production. According to the DeLorean website, the Omega 2040 concept represents a new vision for the company that represents the next generation of DeLorean design. Given that the current generation DeLorean has entered production, looking forward to 2040 is a bold move but the company is certainly ambitious. And Omega is bold, with a design rooted in Baja racing. We hesitate to call it a pickup truck because it doesn’t have a bed, but it’s no ordinary SUV either. There’s not even a side window, but as far as we can tell, it does have a gullwing door.

DeLorean also showed off “old” concept vehicles during Monterey Car Week in the form of the Alpha2, Alpha3, and Alpha4. Drawing on a fictional history in which the DeLorean never went bankrupt, this concept offers a hint to Alpha5. However, the concept car was presented in a scale model format, while the DeLorean came up with full-size versions of the Plasmatail and Omega. That could be a hint of the company’s ambitions to move forward with Plasmatail and at least investigate some Omega sizes in the years to come.
As stated, DeLorean has confirmed the Alpha5 Plasmatail will enter production with a coupe in 2024 but other details such as pricing or production numbers are not yet available.
