The 2022 season of Aston Martin on the Formula 1 It has had a bit of everything, but with a final balance that was not expected. The Silverstone team entered the new era with the slowest car on the grid due to a wrong aerodynamic concept which led to more porpoising.

This fact forced the English brand to develop a New concept single-seater presented at the Spanish Grand Prix and that allowed the team to score regularly. Ending the season by drawing with alfa romeo in sixth position in the constructors’ world championship.

But now that the 2022 season is over, Aston Martin and the other teams are working to prepare the new car in time for the pre-season which starts in March.

So the new Aston Martin AMR23the first to pilot Fernando Alonso (former pilot of Alpine) in competition, it will be very different from the current one, says its creator. Dan Fallows specifies that, although “there is a limit to what we can do with the current rules”, the new car will have significant differences.

“New cars have to pass my kids’ test, so if I put them in front of my kids and they say they look different, then they look different. They always say they look the same, but within the framework of the rules we have, yes, there are significant differences in the AMR23,” he stated.

A very aggressive development strategy

Aston Martin has already adopted an aggressive car development strategy, having had a facelift this year AMR22. And the focus of the new car will not be different.

Dan Fallows, regarding the recovery from the season concluded, assured “It has been an important factor in building our confidence for next year.”

“Clearly we started the year with a car that wasn’t where we wanted it to be and we’ve shown that development, particularly in the second half of the season,” he concedes. He further adds that “really, we’ve shown the design principles that we’ve implemented and some of the philosophies that we’re embracing are paying off and are going to show dividends.”

This is why Fallows and his design and engineering team decided to continue with that approach for the first car designed under his direction after leaving Red Bull Racing. “What we’re trying to do next year is take a very aggressive development strategy, building on the lessons of this year,” he said.

For now, it only remains to be seen if the lessons will be enough for Aston Martin surpass Alpine Y McLaren disputing fourth place in the constructors’ championship.
