We are in a new year, and as you probably suspected, the new car prices have been updated upwards. Cars are more expensive than ever, and even the cheapest cars have gone up in price. The car that stars in this article has been one of the least expensive. Not only has risen only 750 euros price, if not still – and by a very considerable margin – one of the best buys in the segmentin addition to being absolutely unbeatable in value for money.
MG HS 2023: nobody gives more for less
The MG HS is a midsize SUV measuring 4.58 meters in length. Among its most direct rivals are cars like the Toyota RAV4 or the SEAT Tarraco, but it’s not much bigger than compact SUVs like the Hyundai Tucson either. The MG HS has five seats and is also offered in a plug-in version, but the 23,740-euro SUV uses a non-hybrid turbo gasoline engine. The 1.5 Turbo GDI of the MG HS develops 162 hp and allows a very correct 0 to 100 km/h of 9.9 seconds, associated with a six-speed manual gearbox.
For family use, both in the city and on the highway, its engine is compliant and solvent.
It does not have an ECO label, but it does have a C label, and a relatively contained consumption for its dimensions: according to the WLTP combined cycle, approves an average cost of 7.4 l/100 km. The interior of the MG HS is well finished and the materials used are correct – without coming close to the references of the segment. Its rear seats are very spacious and its trunk has 463 liters of volume. In outright trunk capacity it is where it is below the segment average, without having an objectively small trunk.
The version offered is a Comfort access finish. Even though it is a basic version, it has a very extensive equipment: Its instrumentation is 10.25″ digital and has a 10.1″ screen for the infotainment system, compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In addition to tires, automatic climate control and cruise control, it has electric seats upholstered in imitation leather or reversing camera. Its driving aids include lane departure warning, traffic sign reader or detection of vehicles in neutral.
Its equipment is very wide and complete. We do not miss anything, and it is superior to all its rivals in its access finishes.
The offered price of 23,740 euros is 750 euros higher than the price of 22,990 euros it had at the end of 2022, but it is still extremely competitive. To access this price it is necessary finance the purchase of the vehicle with Santander Promofinance, which “unlocks” an additional discount of 3,800 euros. It must be taken into account that the price on offer is only applicable to units of white color in stock, and it is valid until the end of March. It does not include transport and registration costs, which can amount to a few hundred euros.
MG does not detail the interest rates in its offer, but it does specify that includes one year of all-risk insurance. Without discounts, cash, the price of the car is 27,540 euros – a price that remains competitive in the current environment.
Other alternatives to the MG HS in its segment
All the rivals of the MG HS have a higher price, and comparable or inferior equipment. One of the more contained price alternatives is the KIA Sportage (on offer for 27,540 euros), although its size is somewhat smaller. His most direct rival, the toyota rav4It is only available with hybrid mechanics and it is a much better car, but its offer price does not fall below 40,000 euros. Among its thermal rivals with a C label we can find the Skoda Kodiaq with 1.5 TSI mechanics (from 32,400 euros) or the SEAT Tarraco 1.5 TSI of 150 CV, for 33,660 euros.
