A day of parties and costumes ended up being a complete chaosafter what from a car shot at a crowd on Halloween and left at least 15 people injured, including three children. The shooting took place on Halloween night on a Chicago (Illinois) street corner in USA, according to Police Superintendent David Brown. The three injured children have 3, 11 and 13 years of age; the other injured are between 30 and 50 years old.
The Fire Department sent a bunch of ambulances to the Garfield Park neighborhood, the site of the shooting. According to Brown, some victims are in critical condition, although no deaths have been reported at this time.
Other than that, a woman fleeing the shooting was hit by a vehicle while crossing traffic, but did not fight for her life.
A crowd was shot from a car on Halloween
The shooting took place around 9:30 p.m. and was over in a matter of seconds. The event was captured by a video police surveillance, which investigators are reviewing. It shows two shooters shooting into the crowd.
“We know it’s a drive-by shooting that happens in a few seconds,” Brown said, adding that “within about three seconds the car pulls away after passing by and shoots randomly, really, into the crowd.”
For his part, Andrew Holmes, a community activist, said that the children shot during the incident are “just young”. “They’re putting on a costume just to enjoy the night and then you have a clown who goes and unloads that gun, causing great physical harm to these families,” he told local news station WGN-TV.
Brown said that investigators are trying to determine the motives for the shooting and obtain a description of the car to find the perpetrators. So far no arrests have been made.
In the hours of Monday night there were several groups gathered in the said corner. That place is a popular meeting point in the neighborhood, but there is no known conflict between them, according to Brown.
Brown added that a vigil was being held on the corner at the time and balloons were released, but he mentioned there could be other reasons why some of the people were gathered there.
