Jeep Reveals 2024 Recon, 2024 Wagoneer S, 2023 Avenger Electric SUV

Posted on

Jeep sees an electric future for automotive, and the company is officially in the game. Declaring September 8 as Day 4x, the automaker unveiled three new electric SUVs that will enter production within the next two years. This is part of a major shift to electrification that will see Jeep launch four new EVs for North America and Europe by 2025. By 2030, Jeep will be all-electric in Europe and 50 percent electric in the United States.

The journey starts here with the Jeep Recon and Jeep Wagoneer S for global markets, and the Jeep Avenger for Europe only. It’s worth noting that, while all three of these SUVs technically debuted, Jeep offers little to say about each. As such, think of this as an exterior-specific introduction to what Jeep has in store for its future.

Jeep Reconnaissance 2024

Arguably the biggest draw of these three EVs is the Recon. Jeep has no qualms about linking it with the Wrangler, both in terms of design inspiration and off-road performance. It has removable doors, and the cab opens further with a one-touch power top. Underneath, Jeep says there is trace value capability with Jeep Selec-Terrain traction management, e-locker axle technology and fat off-road tires. Other details regarding battery, motor setup or performance weren’t mentioned, but we know it rides on the big Stellantis STLA platform.

Speaking to reporters during the company’s 4xe Day presentation, Jeep Brand CEO Christian Meunier promised that Recon is for sure no replacement for the Wrangler, although there are clear similarities. It will be manufactured in the United States and will enter production in 2024, and will even be offered with a plethora of accessories for off-road upgrades when it launches. Reservations for Recon will open in early 2023.

While the Recon is aimed at capturing the hearts of off-roaders, the sleek Wagoneer S is more like a crazy Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. In fact, Jeep executives have spoken up when it comes to performance. As with the Recon, battery or motor details are unknown. But Jeep promises a 0-60 mph sprint in just 3.5 seconds, with an estimated range of 400 miles per charge.

The Wagoneer S also uses the STLA Large platform, and although it wears the Wagoneer badge, its presence is more in tune with the Grand Cherokee. An EV from the ground up, Jeep promises ample interior space for the Wagoneer S, which is making its way into the midsize SUV segment. It will also be built in the US and enter production in 2024, with orders starting early next year.

This little Jeep is indeed the target of the spy shots we’ve seen in recent months. Designed for the European market, it will also be sold in Japan and South Korea and is placed below the Renegade in the Jeep lineup. Like the Wagoneer S and Recon, Jeep isn’t ready to share details yet but it will arrive before its bigger sibling.

The full official debut is scheduled for October 17 at the Paris Motor Show, and will reach dealerships in early 2023.

Jeep says four new EVs will debut for Europe and North America in 2025. Three are revealed here, leaving one for which we have no information. However, Jeep says such an announcement is planned for the Detroit Auto Show. Additionally, Jeep North America CEO Jim Morrison teased the Grand Wagoneer 4xe hybrid with an estimated range of 500 miles. It’s unclear when the SUV will arrive, but with the media days for the Detroit Auto Show less than a week away, expect more information to come soon.
