The new Maserati GranTurismo made its debut at the beginning of the month and you can already take a look at its convertible version, and it is that, for the first time, the GranCabrio next generation in Italy. It is a camouflaged prototype, but the truth is that it does not leave much to the imagination.
Maserati GranCabrio spied for the first time
With this first look you can tell that it looks almost identical to the new one. GranTurismo. The only difference at first glance is the soft top, which replaces the coupe’s hardtop design. However, the test vehicle had spotlightsbumpers and other smaller details that are no different from the production GranTurismo.
These spy photos come confirming a report from earlier this month, which said that the GranCabrio was already in development. This prototype has exhaust pipes in the rear, which means that it has a combustion engine under the hood. It is known that the convertible will mirror the engine lineup of the coupe and there is a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged engine powering said prototype. Although it is still unknown if he has 489 hp (365 kilowatts) and 442 lb-ft (600 Nm) of torque or 550hp (410 kW) and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm), although that would depend on the trim level (Modena or Trofeo) on the production version.
The 3.0 V6 models are likely to arrive first, but the most powerful variant in the range will be the GranCabrio Folgore. Again, it will share its hardware with the hardtop version of the same car, meaning power will come from a dual-motor electrical system that will make 750 hp (560 kW) and 995 lb-ft (1,350 Nm) of instant torque.
These numbers will make GranCabrio the most powerful production convertible ever created by Maserati. It is expected that the GranTurismo Folgore Accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) in just 2.7 seconds, though the convertible will likely be a bit slower for its added weight.
As advanced as the GranCabriothere are reasons to believe that the final versions will be released towards the second half of the year 2023.
