Opel Corsa Facelift Again Shows a Fresher Body

Posted on

The current Opel Corsa is one of the first brand products to be based on the French platform after PSA previously acquired the marque from Russelslheim. The CMP architecture paved the way for the electrification of Opel’s smallest product currently on sale following the discontinuation of Karl after the 2019 model year. The Corsa has been on sale for over three years and will be refreshed soon. Opel is already working on a facelift and we have new photos showing the progress made so far.

This white prototype captured in Germany by our photographers features a small camouflage covering the front fascia. This is where most of the changes were expected and word is that the radiator grille will get a new design inspired by the Vizor grille seen on the Mokka and Astra. A pair of thinner headlamps with new LED graphics should be part of the package. Adjustments to the lower bumper and grille are also possible.

Changes seem less significant at the rear. The overall design is minimalistic and similar to the refreshed Crossland, especially when it comes to the taillight design. The camouflage doesn’t seem to hide the changes to the rear bumper, though they could come at a later date.

There is growing concern in Europe that the small combustion car segment could die once Euro 7 emission standards are formalized. The Corsa seems safe for now and we expect the engine range to be given a more electrified variant to meet increasingly stringent CO2 regulations. Don’t expect anything super-sophisticated – we believe the Corsa will accept mild hybrid technology without a significant increase in output.

The all-electric Corsa, in turn, could get the same hardware upgrades as the Peugeot e-208, which recently got huge tech upgrades in the form of a more powerful electric motor and a new battery pack. The two vehicles share their platforms and components and it makes sense that the German model will also receive new EV technology from Peugeot, which made its debut with the electric Peugeot 308.
