Stay with this idea: the future of Polestar as a manufacturer of electric cars has its benchmark in Porsche. The Swedish brand unrelated to Volvo has a very clear roadmap, not only in terms of growth, but also in what its cars should be like and what its philosophy should be. Polestar has always defended a much sportier vision than that seen in Volvo modelsbut now that it is a completely independent manufacturer, Polestar wants to go further to become a direct rival of Porsche and its electric cars.
Polestar will launch its own Porsche 911, but it will be electric and based on the O2 Concept
That Porsche is a benchmark in many ways is something we already knew, but that it has become a clear benchmark in electric mobility is not so well known. The success of the Taycan and the close arrival of the electric Macan and Boxster hide an ambitious – and successful – strategy on the part of the German firmHowever, it is precisely the preservation of its philosophy as a luxury and sports brand, which has attracted the attention of other rival brands such as Maserati or Polestar.
After the presentation of the Polestar 3 as its first SUV, the brand has confirmed that it intends to launch a production version of the Polestar O2 Concept, an electric sports car that will seek to compete directly with the Porsche 911 under the name Polestar 6. Nothing easy of course, but Polestar is convinced that it can stand up to the Suttgart manufacturer in design, technology and driving dynamics, which is why it has decided to embark on the adventure of putting a sports car on the streets that serves as a halo model.
And we must not forget about another key launch in the Swedish manufacturer, because very soon we will also meet the Polestar 5, an electric sedan with a marked sports cut that wants to position itself at the same level as the Porsche Taycanin addition to its alternatives in the form of the Audi e-tron GT or Tesla Model S. Of course, Polestar has developed the 5 under a series of premises that make it quite special, highlighting the fact that it is the first Polestar that will not be related to a Volvo or the use of a chassis that uses mostly adhesive instead of welds to reduce weight and increase torsional rigidity.
