An officer on a motorcycle died after being struck by the branch of a palm when he was doing routine work on a busy highway in South Florida, authorities reported.
This is Charles Herring and his death was confirmed by the Fraternal Order of Florida State Police and by the Pembroke Pines agency, in Broward County, northwest of Miami.
Herring was in his vehicle heading south on 184th Avenue in Pembroke Pines when he was struck by a tree on the highway. This caused the officer to lose control and shoot out.

The motorcyclist was transferred to a care center, but due to the seriousness of the injuries he did not survive.

With 21 years of service, Herring is the first Pembroke Pines officer to die while serving in the history of that department, according to the head of the institution.

“The present day [jueves]Officer Charles ‘Charlie’ Herring was involved in a tragic accident after a piece of branch fell from a tree, striking him and causing him to fall from his motorcycle,” the department posted on Twitter.
Herring leaves behind a wife and four children. He also served in the US Army as an officer in Starke, Florida for three years.
