Porsche 911 GT3 Gets 550-HP Subaru WRX STI Engine At SEMA

Eneos is Japan’s largest oil company, and came to the 2022 SEMA Show with an impressive lineup of tuned vehicles. An interesting mix of engines includes a Subaru-powered Porsche 911, a wide-body Datsun 521 pickup, a Tesla Model 3 race car, the contest-winning 1997 Acura Integra Type R, and a Nissan Frontier set up for competition.

The Porsche 911 GT3 STI is an interesting creation. DevSpeed built it starting with the engineless 2007 GT3 rolling shell the company bought at auction. The team looked for a way to fit the turbocharged flat-four engine of the 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STI into the rear of the Porsche.

DevSpeed modified the Subaru engine extensively to increase output to 550 horsepower (410 kilowatts). For comparison, the stock ’07 GT3 3.6-liter flat-six offers 415 hp (310 kW). Tuning to the STI power plant includes an upgraded turbo, a large intercooler, an overhauled fuel system, and a custom exhaust. The six-speed manual sourced from Subaru sends muscle to the rear wheels.

The 911 GT3 STI also has an adjustable BC Racing coilover with an air jack for faster wheel changes when running on the track. The GT3R race car body kit from VAD Design in the UK includes wider fenders for attaching 19-inch Rotiform 917 wheels. Inside, there is a roll cage.

Dai Yoshihara was a former Formula Drift Champion, but he also loves off-road racing. The Eneos SEMA booth includes his 2006 Nissan Frontier Pre-Runner from the R/T Tuning company. Under the hood, there’s a 3.0-liter twin-turbo VR30DDTT like you’d find on the new Nissan Z. Extra tuning for this one boosts output to 600 hp (447 kW) and 650 pound-feet (881 Newton-meters). By comparison, the app on the Z has 400 hp (298 kW) and 350 lb-ft (475 Nm) of power. An overhauled long-travel suspension absorbs bumps.
