Reddit hit the track. The site’s r/Nascar community will sponsor Ryan Vargas at the Sparks 300 Nascar Xfinity event at the Talladega Superspeedway on October 1.
Vargas races for JD Motorsports. For Talladega, his Chevrolet Camaro has an orange-and-white paint scheme. The Reddit alien logo is on the hood and rear deck. The roof and rear fenders have an r/Nascar décor. The username u/RyanVargas_23 Vargas is just above the driver’s window. Positive voice arrows decorated the door.
Although not seen in the promotional image, the rear bumper of the car bears nearly 1,400 usernames from the r/Nascar community. This forum has 856,000 members, so there’s a lot of people to choose from.
“I’m really excited to represent the r/Nascar community next weekend in Talladega. Reddit has proven to be a fantastic home for Nascar fans to engage in conversation and interact with their favorite racers,” said Vargas in the sponsorship announcement.
The Sparks 300 Nascar Xfinity race will run 113 laps of the famous trioval circuit. Vargas is 24th in the points standings draw heading into the Talladega race. He has 266 points. This season, he finished sixth at Daytona, which is his only top ten result this year. He also has three DNF.
To promote sponsors, r/Nascar community have a raffle for 12 VIP tickets to the race. There will also be “ask me anything” with Vargas. Competitors will be able to participate in the meet and greet event.
Going forward, there will be a diecast version of the Reddit-sponsored racer. In the announcement thread, a moderator warned that due to the small size of the car, member usernames might not be visible there.
Noah Gragson is the current leader of the Nascar Xfinity series standings. He has 2,107 points and seven wins so far this season. Including Talladega, there are six races remaining this season.
