The Ministry of Mobility (Semovi) postpones the changes in the traffic regulations for motorcycleswhich had restrictions for motorcycles under 600 cubic centimeters (cc) on controlled access roads in the City of Mexico. This, after a demonstration and subsequent agreement at a dialogue table between motorcyclists.

Through a statement, the CDMX government reported that the Traffic Regulations will not be modifiedcontrary to the action that initially would have entered into force on December 1 of this year.

So it will be postponed for undefined time the beginning of the restriction on the movement of motorcycles under 600 cc, to the central lanes of controlled access roads, such as the Periférico, Viaducto, Circuito Interior, Calzada Ignacio Zaragoza or Viaducto Tlalpan.

Hundreds of motorcyclists demonstrated on different roads in opposition to the modifications to the Traffic Regulations announced by Claudia Sheinbaum during this Tuesday, November 22. This protest ended in a fight with police officers, 9 drivers arrested and 18 motorcycles that were taken to the pen.

It was after the aforementioned demonstration, that on the afternoon of Wednesday, November 23, the authorities of the capital held a dialogue table with motorcyclists who were dissatisfied with the new driving rules.

The Undersecretary of Planning, Policies and Regulation of Semovi, Rodrigo Díaz, communicated that while the dialogue tables are carried out, the current norm, established in Section V of Article 21 of the Traffic Regulations, will continue to be maintained.

After the meeting with representatives of more than 20 motorcycle groups, Díaz specified that the restriction will apply only to motorcycles under 250 cc.

“At the moment, and as expressed by the Head of Government, the regulation is the one that was in place until last week, no modifications have been made to it, that is, that circulation on controlled access roads is restricted to vehicles under 250 he declared.

He added that in the following dialogue that they will hold with the motorcyclists and that will take place next week, issues will be discussed in areas not only technical, but also training and prevention.


In addition, Díaz highlighted that about 70% of the total number of motorists that circulate in the capital city use units of less than 250 cc.
