Juicy are the novelties with which Subaru has landed in the Hall of Los Angeles. Just as it did with the first generation, back in 1992, the Japanese brand has chosen this appointment to present the sixth generation of the Subaru Impreza. The new model, which will arrive next spring, comes with important new features: the Subaru Impreza will only be available as a compact, it will only have an automatic transmission… and it will have a sporty RS version.
We start with the first of the changes: the new Subaru Impreza says goodbye to the four-door version that was available in its fifth generation and bets only on being a compact five-door. Now it is also 10% stiffer than the model it replaces.
The design of the Subaru Impreza 2024
At an aesthetic level, an evolution of the current appearance can be appreciated with clear influencesSubaru Crosstrek (the old Subaru XV) in the overall design and especially in the front: the grille is slightly larger and the headlights have a sharper shape. The changes at the rear are more noticeable with ‘C’ shaped lights and more exposed exhaust outlets. The new Impreza looks, especially from the side, a bit slimmer and more dynamic than its predecessor.
Inside, the changes are more significant: the 2024 Subaru Impreza promises more storage space and seats with more support. In the driving position we find an analog instrument panel (the lateral spheres) and digital (the center screen). In the center console they have placed a vertical screen of 11.6 inches, which in the smaller models will become a pair of seven-inch screens.
Technology and security
The infotainment system compatible with the wireless versions of Apple Carplay and Android Auto and the air conditioning is now smarter: will heat or cool only the seats that are occupied for greater comfort and better consumption economy.
In the security section, the new Subaru Impreza will have an improved version of EyeSight, the brand’s driver assistance technology. It has a wider field of vision and can identify both bicycles and pedestrians at intersections. Models equipped with Blind Spot Detection, Lane Keep Assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert will also feature an automatic emergency steering system.
The mechanical range of the Subaru Impreza 2024
The Subaru Impreza 2024 will only have three trim levels: Base, Sport and RS. The last two offer sportier details than the first, such as larger wheels, a sportier suspension or the SI-Drive system.
On a mechanical level there are also differences. The Base and Sport are equipped with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder boxer engine producing 152PS and maximum torque of 197Nm. The RS, for its part, has a 2.5-liter four-cylinder boxer that generates 182 hp and delivers a maximum torque of 241 Nm.
All of them will be associated with a CVT automatic transmission because the Japanese brand has removed the five-speed manual box. Of course, the Sport and RS models will have a ‘manual’ mode with eight gears, which can be selected with the paddles on the steering wheel, to generate a feeling of greater control over the car.
As usual in the house, the Subaru Impreza 2024 will have a symmetrical all-wheel drive system which, on this occasion, has evolved to refine its operation. Now, in addition, it has active torque vectoring. Secondly, inherits the electronic power steering from the new Subaru WRX which, according to the brand, offers a more direct and natural sensation, as well as greater responsiveness.
Subaru Impreza RS 2024
Subaru has recovered the name RS for the Subaru Impreza to give shape to the model with the highest performance in the range. The Subaru Impreza RS 2024 will be, like the rest of the versions, a five-door compact: nor is there news of the coupe what ever was
The Subaru Impreza RS 2024 has a more aggressive look with a spoiler located on the tailgate with side wings. The grille now has details in dark gray and for the exterior mirrors, the side sills or the 18-inch wheels have used the color black. Inside, the black cloth seats have red accents, and the trim mixes metallic gray with simulated carbon fiber.
On a mechanical level, as we mentioned before, the Subaru Impreza RS 2024 has been equipped with a modified version of the scheme that has the other two versions: a 2.5-litre four-liter boxer with 182 PS and a maximum torque of 241 Nm. Its partner is an eight-speed Lineartronic CVT automatic transmission with paddle shifters, which sends power to both axles. It also has the SI-Drive driving mode selector.
