The diesel SUV that travels more than 100 km without consuming a drop of diesel already has a price

Just a few days ago we were talking about one of the most interesting diesel SUVs, and unique for its mechanical proposal, on the market. And without a doubt, a product for which it was worth waiting for 2023 to change cars. It is not a car for all budgets, nor for all audiences, but it is one of the most interesting alternatives in its category. And their sales attest to it.

As we have been telling you for a long time, the idea of being able to combine the low consumption of diesel with the great advantage of making optimal use of energy offered by hybrids is, a priori, a brilliant idea. In the past we have already seen how PSA, now Stellantis, offered diesel hybrids in the Citroën and Peugeot catalogue. Currently, there are quite a few diesel micro-hybrid alternatives.

But the SUV in question goes much further and is nothing more than a diesel plug-in hybrid, which can travel between 112 and 128 kilometers in electric mode, without consuming a drop of diesel.

The Mercedes GLC has a very special and rare version, which is a plug-in hybrid combined with a diesel internal combustion engine.

A diesel SUV with more than 100 kilometers of electric autonomy

The Mercedes GLC is the best-selling car in its category. And it is, among other things, due to its plug-in hybrid offer and also for having two bodywork alternatives, an SUV to use, and a sportier alternative with coupé features. We imagine that it will continue to maintain its position, especially after having been completely renovated. We recently had the opportunity to test it and at the end of this article my colleague Sergio tells us his impressions of the renewed Mercedes GLC in his video test.

The Mercedes GLC has landed in dealerships with five enginestwo 204 CV (+23 CV) and 258 CV (+23 CV) microhybrid gasoline, two 197 CV (+23 CV) and 269 CV (+23 CV) diesel microhybrids and a plug-in hybrid (gasoline) of 204 hp (+136 hp).

Mercedes-Benz has just introduced into the range one of the most anticipated mechanics, which is none other than the Mercedes GLC 300 4MATIC 197 (+136 CV), a plug-in hybrid diesel. This mechanic has a Zero Emissions label, like any electric vehicle and, as we said, it has an electric range between 112 and 128 kilometers. Remember that these figures are based on approvals. However, it is an SUV with which it is feasible to travel about 100 kilometers without consuming fuel. Which would allow us to carry out practically all our day-to-day journeys in electric mode without having to recharge batteries.

Mercedes-Benz has already announced pricing for the plug-in hybrid diesel GLC. This model will be the most expensive version of the GLC range, with a starting price of €77,725, which is around €9,000 more than the 269 PS microhybrid diesel (+23 PS) and around €3,000 more than the 204 petrol plug-in hybrid (+136 PS).
