I have to admit that this type of video restores my faith in humanity, relaxes me, and satisfies the child that lives inside of me. I love barn finds (car discoveries that have been standing still for decades), but I love them even more when they are combined with a first wash and/or detailer in decades. The video that I want to show you today combines both elements, and its protagonist is a beautiful Ford F-250 Lariat from the year 1978: It only has 139 miles on its odometer, and it’s getting its first bath in 42 years.
This pickup was used briefly in late 1978, spending the rest of the time parked in a North Carolina barn. The new owners want to preserve its extreme originality, present on its exterior, on its tires, in its engine compartment and even on its underbody. So they hired Larry Kosilla of AMMO NYC to bring the car back to its glory, but without altering its spectacular condition. His first wash in 40 years began with a bath in soap and water, plus a manual agitation of the dirt that covered his bodywork.
This unit had a very high equipment for the time, including cruise control or air conditioning.
The quality control defects of the production line are striking, as is the “orange peel” of its paint, which has also wanted to be preserved. After manual cleaning and drying, it was time to polish his paint, to remove the dirt attached to it for 40 years, using a very little abrasive compound. The restoration was completed with a polishing of all the chrome and a light cleaning of the interior, which hardly needed work. The result is simply captivating, capable of shining with its own light.
