After months of rumors and spy photos, Suzuki has made official the news that the motoring world has been waiting for. It has taken advantage of the Auto Expo 2023 that is being held these days in India, the country in charge of building the vehicle in question, to present the five-door Suzuki Jimny. Is there hope for Europe?
Despite its five doors, the Suzuki Jimny is still the boxy SUV we all know: Now it’s just bigger to accommodate the rear doors that provide access to a much more spacious interior.
It measures 3,985 meters long and its wheelbase has grown to 2,590 meters (34 centimeters larger than the three-door variant). It is 1,645 meters wide and 1,720 meters high, while its ground clearance is 21 centimeters. As for its off-road dimensions, we find an entry angle of 36 degrees, a ventral one of 24 and an exit angle of 50.
Is there hope for Europe?
The five-door Suzuki Jimny It retains the 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine (102 hp and 130 Nm) of the current model. The transmission can be a five-speed manual or a four-speed torque converter automatic; the driver will be able to choose between three modes 2WD High, 4WD Low and 4WD High.
Suzuki confirmed that the three-door version will have a hybrid variant, arriving in 2024: It would remain to be seen if this configuration would be available for the new version, thus expanding the possibilities of seeing it in Europe. At the moment, orders have been opened in India, where it will go on sale in May, and then it will be the turn of markets such as Africa, Australia and Latin America.
few changes
On an aesthetic level, the five-door Suzuki Jimny retains the usual vertical and square style and it sports a two-tone body with a black roof, which contrasts with the characteristic Kinetic Yellow.
We can recognize the slatted front grille with the round headlights, the flared wheel arches, the off-road tires or the rear hinges. It is equipped with 15 inch wheels and at the rear it features a door-mounted spare wheel protected by a black cover.
The interior is inherited, too, from the standard Suzuki Jimny. However, here we do find some differences: the central screen measures nine inches (two more than that installed in the three-door) and has wireless connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. To the technological equipment it adds an Arkamys sound system and a rear view camera. Behind the rear row, with space for three occupants, we find a trunk whose load capacity is 208 liters or 332 with the seats folded.
