The lesser-known high-end SUV, which is quietly dominating the market

Posted on

It is increasingly common to see vehicles of brands unknown to most drivers on the street. The case of MG is paradigmatic, with a range of electric and cheap gasoline cars, it is placing its product among the best-selling cars in Spain in record time. In the coming years we will see more and more brands, hitherto unknown, conquering parking lots in our cities, especially with a wave of electric cars made in China.

But today we will talk about a brand that has arrived without making much noise and that can now be seen very frequently, especially on the streets of large Spanish cities. An SUV that is committed to plug-in hybrid technologydue to a tremendously simple configuration process, with all the equipment available from the most basic version and, above all, betting on the pay-per-use or subscription method.

How has this SUV managed to dominate the market?

In the coming years we will witness the arrival of a flood of hitherto unknown cars and brands, which without making much noise can conquer the Spanish market.

The SUV that, without making noise, dominates the market

There are currently two types of plug-in cars in the Spanish market, those that are fully electric and those that have an internal combustion engine, also known as plug-in hybrids. The best-selling pure electric car in Spain this year is the Tesla Model 3, with 2,391 units registered up to and including November. But there are two other cars, plug-in hybrids, that outperform Tesla’s electric sedan.

The Peugeot 3008 plug-in hybrid accumulates 2,530 registered units. And in second position, the presence of an SUV from a very little-known brand, the Lynk&Co 01, with 2,423 units, is surprising.

Some very respectable figures for a car from a newcomer brand, in a high price range, and with technology that represents a very modest percentage of sales in Spain.

Lynk&Co 01 is committed to subscriptions, with a fixed rate of €550/month and also to car sharing, so that you can rent the Lynk&Co from private owners and companies by the hour

How much does the Lynk&Co 01 cost?

Lynk&Co does not have regular dealerships, but rather clubs, where you can see their cars, which are ultimately purchased online, and book a test drive. The sale of the Lynk&Co 01 is not the main objective of the brand either, but they offer that possibility, for €44,500, with all the standard equipment available, expected deliveries from 2 to 4 weeks and the possibility of receiving aid from the MOVES Plan, which would be €5,000 if we deliver an old car for scrapping. Lynk&Co only offers two customization possibilities, choose it with blue or black color and add or not a tow ball.

But Lynk&Co’s true focus is on monthly subscriptions. In having a Lynk&Co 01 for a fee of €550/month which, as if that were not enough, is equipped with the necessary telematic systems to offer the possibility of car sharing. In this way, from an application any driver can reserve one of the Lynk&Co that are available in their city and rent it, by the hour, following a model very similar to that of car sharing companies such as Wible, Zity or Free2Move.

Regarding its technology, the Lynk&Co 01 is equipped with a plug-in hybrid system, with 261 HP of combined power and an electric range of 69 kilometers. As we told you, all the equipment is available as standard, including 12.3″ digital instrumentation, an entertainment system with a 12.7″ central screen, peripheral parking sensors and automated parking, and even a panoramic sunroof.
