It could paralyze the importation of cars in Chile in 2023
Through a statement, ANAC explained that “as of January 20, 2023, the importation of all types of new tires, including trucks, buses, automobiles, vehicles and machinery that have mounted tires, runs the serious risk of becoming paralyzedif the new requirement of the National Customs Service remains in force».
As they mentioned, the regulations state that “for the entry of these products, a sworn statement will be required that proves that the importer has an authorized management system to recycle them.”
“This within the framework of the Extended Producer Responsibility Law (REP) which, in an unprecedented manner, has demanded said requirement that does not exist for other priority products (such as containers and packaging, which already have their own regulation) and that It produces an unnecessary overregulation, since the Law itself incorporated fines and sanctions in the case of not having a duly authorized management system,” they specified.
In the same order, they mention that “if this system is not in place as of January 20 – which appears unfeasible to date, because there is still none of a collective nature empowered to operate – the internment of at least 335 thousand cars could be stopped12 thousand trucks, three thousand buses and more than six million tires for replacement.
