Today there are two formulas to get the much-prized Zero Emissions label: buy an electric car or a plug-in hybrid. The latter usually enjoy a moderate electric range, generally around 50 kilometers, enough for short urban journeys. But today we will talk about the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, an SUV with a Zero Emissions label, a good trunk, for €30,400. What is the fine print?
An SUV with a Zero label for €30,400
The Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is a plug-in hybrid SUV, which has a single mechanism, with 188 hp of combined power and all-wheel drive. Its 2.4-liter displacement gasoline engine delivers 98 CV, so that much of its power is provided by two electric motors, one at the front with 82 CV and the other at the rear with 95 CV. Its electric autonomy is 45 kilometers, with a 13.8 kWh battery, but its total autonomy, using the gasoline engine, exceeds 600 kilometers.
To put it in context, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is a 4.54 meter long SUV, 10 centimeters longer than a Peugeot 3008 and 18 centimeters more than a SEAT Ateca. And its trunk without being particularly large for its size, with a capacity of 404 liters, is indeed ample for a plug-in hybrid.
