In July 2020, Wey – one of the automotive brands under the Great Wall umbrella – launched the Tank 300 concept. Just a few months later, the model was launched in the Chinese market as a production vehicle under the new founder Tank brand, which has plans to sell off-road vehicles. road with a touch of luxury.
The Tank 300 has design hints from several different models, including the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler, but at the same time showcases a distinctive style that is different from the sea of crossovers and SUVs these days. It is now on sale in China and Saudi Arabia and will soon be launched in Australia.

Our friends in motorcycle taxis driver finally got the Tank 300 to review it and were kind enough to share their exclusive photo gallery, which you can find attached above. A new nine-minute video shows us all the exterior and interior features of the tough SUV and tells us what the Tank 300 feels like behind the wheel.
From the outside, the Tank 300 is boxy but in a very nice way. The thick side mirrors and wheel arches make it very similar to the Wrangler, although the front end seems to have more of an influence than the Bronco. Funnily enough – we don’t know if you’ll agree – we found hints about the classic UAZ 469 which also served as the base for the Chinese BAW BJ212, also reviewed by motorcycle taxis driver recently. We find it hard to say the Tank 300 is genuine but somehow, it’s not exactly a copycat and has its own style.
It’s the same story in the cabin. While the exterior looks rugged, the interior looks good and some might even describe it as premium to some extent. Visually there is a resemblance to the Mercedes-Benz G-Class but it turns out that the interior only looks like a G-Class, it doesn’t feel like when you start touching objects around it. The quality of the materials is acceptable, especially when you consider that the Tank 300 costs around $30,000 in China or about twice as much as the Wrangler for the same market.
How does it feel on the road? As a traditional body-on-frame SUV, ride quality is certainly not great, but the video host pointed out that the Tank 300 is much more comfortable than the Wrangler thanks to its multi-link suspension. How’s the steering? What’s the powertrain? What technology does it have? All the answers are in the video at the top of this page.
