The car registrations in Europe they increased in September by 9% year-on-year, which is the second month of growth, after a period of challenging decline from June 2021 to July 2022.
In addition, the electric car sales pluggable they are also growing, but at a slightly lower rate than the general market.
According to data from EV Volumes, shared by Jose Pontes, almost 250,000 new plug-in cars were registered in the old continent in September, 7% more than a year ago. It has been the best month since March. In addition, the market share amounted to 24%, almost 1 in 4 new cars.
For its part, sales of electric cars improved 16% year over year, so they are above the general average of the market.
When it comes to new plug-in car registrations: BEVs (battery electric vehicles) are around 165,000 (up 16% year over year) and 16% share. And the PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) in about 85,000 and 8% share. This generates a total of 249,721 (7% more year after year) and 24% participation.

So far they have enrolled in Europe about 1.7 million new plug-in electric cars for passengers. This equates to around 21% of the total volume.

The best plug-in models in Europe
However, the most amazing achievement is that the Tesla Model Y became the best selling car in Europe in September 2022, regardless of the powertrain.
With a total of 29,595 registrations, which is a new historical monthly record for electric vehicles. The ModelY it outperformed all other cars. It was also ranked #1 in Germany (9,846). In the UK, the ModelY ranked second overall.
It is worth mentioning that deliveries of Tesla they are not consistent: the highest results are observed in the last month of a quarter. So only time will tell if the ModelY will be able to be more consistent thanks to local production in Germany.
Meanwhile, the other best-selling models in September were the Tesla Model 3 (11,705), the Volkswagen ID.4 (6,717) and the fiat 500 electric (5,076). It is worth noting that the new Renault Megane E-Tech is ranked number 7 with 4,570 units.

With almost 30,000 registrations in September, the Tesla Model Y strengthened his leadership as the best plug-in model in Europe. The Tesla Model 3 is still number 2 with an advantage over the electric Fiat 500 that closes the podium in third place.
