Following a preview in mid-November at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the Toyota bZ Concept is back in the headlines celebrating his Euro Cup debut. The compact SUV made its appearance at the Kenshiki Forum in Brussels, Belgium, and Toyota now returns with some images and the first specifications of the EV.
Let’s remember that this is one of the six models with the insignia Beyond Zero that Toyota intends to introduce into Europe by 2026. The EV has been designed and developed in France.
Toyota bZ Concept specifications
Shown in new pictures along with the Toyota C-HR Prologue Concept Unveiled today, the bZ compact SUV concept boasts impressive dimensions: 4,538 mm (178.6 inches) long, 1,888 mm (74.3 inches) wide (not counting mirrors) and 1,560 mm (61.4 inches) Tall. The wheels measure 21 inches, though it’s unknown if they’ll still be as big for the later production model.
It is a little shorter than a RAV4 and, like the others bZ models that Toyota has launched or is working on, this has been conceived from day one as an EV. The general design is not so far from the mentioned C-HR Prologue. However, you will immediately recognize which crossover the 100% electric model is by the front LED light bar fitted to the bZ compact SUV.
The minimalist interior virtually eliminates all conventional controls by integrating the vehicle’s functions into the generously sized infotainment. There are a few shortcuts under the touchscreen, providing quick access to climate controls, navigation, and music settings. A home button can also be noticed on the left, along with a gear icon to access the main menu.
Because round steering wheels look old-fashioned, the bZ Compact SUV Concept features a particularly octagon-shaped steering wheel. In addition, it removes the corporate logo, replaced by an off-center script “Toyota bZ.” Both the touchscreen and the digital driver’s display appear curved at the bottom, suggesting that the auto industry is ready to take advantage of flexible display technology.
Although the C-HR second-generation will hit the market “soon”, Toyota does not say when it plans to introduce the bZ electric crossover. So it would be unlikely that a market launch will take place before 2024.
