The Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance 2023 It arrives as the latest plug-in hybrid sports sedan from the German brand. The result is the most powerful S-Class ever available from Mercedes.

The S 63 E Performance it has a slightly more aggressive appearance than a standard S-Class. The grill has a series of vertical louvers. The AMG emblem is in a mix of chrome and black on the tip of the nose. The lower fascia features large openings at the outer ends and at the rear are four trapezoidal exhaust tips with a diffuser running between them.

Inside, there is seating for four. The MBUX infotainment system sports specific displays for AMG and hybrid powertrain features. Additionally, a heads-up display is also standard. The steering wheel switches feature the ability to select between four brake recovery modes.

Regarding the mechanics, the S 63 E Performance it’s a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and a rear-axle mounted electric motor. Total output is 791 Hp (590 kilowatts) and 1,055 lb-ft (1,430 Nm). This gets the sedan to 60 mph (96 km/h) in about 3.2 seconds. In USAthe AMG Driver’s Package it is a standard feature to provide a top speed of 180 mph (290 kph). In Europethis upgrade is an option, and the car runs out of fuel at 155 mph (250 kph) without it.

By itself, the twin-turbo V8 makes 603 hp (450 kW) from 5,500 to 6,500 rpm. Peak torque of 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) is available between 2,500 and 4,500 rpm.

Meanwhile, the electric motor has a continuous power of 94 hp (70 kW). A peak 188 hp (140 kW) is available for 10-second internals. Peak torque is 236 lb-ft (320 Nm). It has a two-speed transmission that shifts to second around 87 mph (140 kph).

A 13.1 kWh battery provides power to the motor. It mounts at the rear above the rear axle. The German automaker doesn’t specify the EV-only range, but says the tuning prioritizes fast power delivery over long electric driving distances. The pack has a 3.7 kW AC charger.

The powertrain for the ICE portion consists of a automatic transmission nine-speed that sends the output to a system of all wheel drive. The rear axle has 2.5 degrees of steering.

The S 63 E Performance It rides on an adaptive air suspension that has the ability to lower the sedan by 0.4 inches (1.02 cm) at speeds above 75 mph (121 kph). In addition, it has active roll stabilization that reduces body roll when cornering. Meanwhile, depending on driving conditions, active engine mounts can either soften or stiffen the connection between the V8 and the body.

The structure of the sports sedan is stiffened by adding an aluminum stabilizer under the V8 and a cross-arm for the suspension mounting points. Aluminum diagonal struts at the rear serve the same function.

As for braking, there are 15.7-inch discs with six-piston calipers at the front and 15-inch rotors with single-piston stops at the rear. Additionally, composite ceramic parts are an optional upgrade.
