Tesla is already working on updating its sedan model 3 to make it more attractive to customers and reduce production costs. The model is codenamed “Highlands«, being the mid-cycle renewal similar to what was done with the Model S Y x in 2021.
According to Reuters, citing four sources familiar with the matter, the car will have visual changes in the exterior and interior.
For now, there is no word on the changes to the exterior design, but if the Model S is used as a reference, it may be a Body refining and keeping minor updates. The news gigawindshield and other assembly methods save production costs, so making the car should be cheaper.
For its part, the interior will focus on minimalism with the aim of reducing costs. However, it will improve infotainment screen.

This update comes as the EV market has become more challenging in China, Tesla’s second-biggest market behind the US.
In this context, the firm is forced to reduce Model 3 prices by 9% to become competitive in the market again.
That price cut was followed by a Sales drop, since in the first 10 months of the year, registrations fell a 9% in China. For its part, BYD outsold the Model 3 with its Qin and Han.
The facelifted Model 3 is estimated to enter production during the third quarter of 2023 at the factory in Tesla in Shanghai. It will also be manufactured in Fremont, California.
