It is increasingly difficult to find a good SUV and at the same time a true 4×4. And even more to get it at an adjusted price, this being one of the territories dominated by premium brands.
But there are still some oddities, such as the case at hand, in which an attempt has been made to combine in an SUV the necessary capacities in two antagonistic territories, that of asphalt, advocating for a practical, spacious and relatively comfortable product, and that of off-road, with all-wheel drive, reduction, self-locking rear differential and 224 millimeters of ground clearance.

A 7-seater 4×4 SUV with 872 liters of luggage space
We are talking about the benchmark SUV from SsangYong. The SsangYong Rexton is only marketed with a 2.2-liter diesel engine and 202 hp and an 8-speed automatic transmission, as well as all-wheel drive. There are no more mechanical choices than this, which, on the other hand, is the one that best suits a vehicle of its characteristics, with an approved consumption of 7.7 liters/100 kilometers. As we told you, it is a 7-seater SUV and the cheapest with 4×4 capacities.
From the most basic version, the SsangYong Rexton is already equipped with 17″ wheels (235/70 R17 tires), rain sensor and lights, dual-zone climate control, rear view camera with parking aid, and self-leveling LED headlights. Optionally we can choose a version Premium, which is already equipped with 18″ wheels and leather-like upholstery, among other improvements. And also a Limited version that includes leather upholstery, heated front and rear seats and ventilated front seats and 20-inch alloy wheels, among other improvements.
Now, what is the price of this 4×4 SUV?

Below we will detail the different purchase possibilities and promotions of the SsangYong Rexton and, of course, its conditions:
- The Hook price of the SsangYong Rexton is €37,700. But among its conditions it includes a loyalty discount, delivering an old SsangYong to the dealer (you must be a SsangYong customer therefore to benefit) and financing the purchase. SsangYong proposes to finance the purchase in 95 installments of €454.85, with a down payment of €8,000 (TIN 9.2%, APR 10.8%, opening commission of 3.8%), with a total amount owed of €43,705. € and making the final price we pay for it €51,705. We are talking about paying 37% more for the car, at the end of the loan, than the €37,700 announced by the brand. Our advice would be to ask the dealer if it is possible to finance with other types of conditions or opt for cash payment.
- SsangYong provides another starting price of €39,700which does not require financing the purchase, but does include the loyalty discount of €1,000 and therefore the delivery of an old SsangYong.
- According to the SsangYong configurator, we could get a SsangYong Rexton paying cash, with a €1,700 promotional discount included for €40,700. Which is still a good price. But it is important to note that the only possibility to benefit from this price is to configure it in a silver paint finish, called Silver Fine. Any other paint finish has an added cost of €425, with which our SsangYong Rexton would already cost €41,125.
We insist that, even so, this is still a great price. Cars that a priori do not enjoy their 4×4 capabilities, configured with 4×4 drive and 7 seats, are already in more than €45,000 like the Skoda Kodiaq Y more than €50,000 the SEAT Tarraco and of €60,000 the Toyota Highlander.
If we aim for a true SUV we will find higher prices, more than €50,000 for the Toyota Land Cruiser and of €85,000 for the Land Rover Discovery.
