We live in interesting times, to say the least. The new car market is skyrocketing in price and even the second hand market is overheating because of it. At the moment it is difficult to find proposals with a great value for money in the new car market, but things change if we look at the used car market and opt for little-known vehicles. This is the case of the SUV that we are proposing today: it has a huge trunkit is very equipped, It is huge and costs less than 25,000 euros.
The car in question is the Ford Edge. A vehicle I know well, as one of my best friends is a unit owner. the edge It was sold in Spain between the years 2016 and 2020, but it was really a car designed for the American market. In Europe it was only sold with diesel engines between 190 and 238 hp, and received a rather interesting facelift at the end of 2018 – especially on a mechanical level. In this case, we focus the shot on the versions prior to the faceliftsold between 2016 and early 2019.
Ford stopped selling it in January 2020 to reduce its average emissions. It was sold in Europe for only four years.
All Ford Edge measures around 4.81 meters in length and have five seats, with no option for seven seats. They stand out for a trunk of 602 liters of volume and a really wide second row of seats in all its dimensions. Its interior is typically American: it does not have the greatest emphasis in the segment on interior quality, but space does abound and the equipment is extensive. These first Ford Edge were sold mainly in Titanium and Sport versions, with the former already having heated seats or a SYNC3 infotainment system.
This infotainment system already has smartphone integration and eight inches. The climate control is automatic and two zones, and the tailgate is electric. We have cruise control – optionally it was adaptive – and both sensors and reversing cameras. This was a car whose starting price in 2016 exceeded 40,000 euros, and some of its pre-facelift versions exceeded 50,000 euros. It flirted with premium aspiration vehicles in positioning, equipment and benefits.
It lacks any hybridization, but all its versions have a C label from the DGT.
On a mechanical level, it was available in front-wheel drive or intelligent all-wheel drive versions. Their engines were two 2.2 TDCi 180 or 210 hp with twin sequential turbo, associated with a manual gearbox or a six-speed dual-clutch PowerShift gearbox. Time has shown that the reliability of manual changes has been much better in the Edge. It approved an average consumption of 5.8-5.9 l/100 km, although experience dictates that its actual average consumption oscillates around 7 l/100 km.
After the facelift, the diesel engines became part of the 2.0 EcoBlue family, and their power increased to 238 CV, with 190 CV being the access performance step. Consumption was reduced and the automatic transmission became a torque converter and ten relations, in addition to improving the equipment and having a more modern aesthetic. I personally recommend opting for units from the year 2019 onwardsbut its price is, on average, about 7,000-10,000 euros higher than pre-facelift units.
The “pre” units can be found on the market for prices between 20,000 and 25,000 euroseven with mileages less than 100,000 km. In Qué Coche Me Compro we have several Ford Edge at reasonable prices that could become your next used car.
