Elon Musk to automakers after pausing Twitter ads
In a town hall for advertisers broadcast on Twitter Spaces earlier this week, Musk vowed not to give Tesla unfair advantages and said he hopes other auto executives will become more active on the platform.
“We will try to be as fair as possible”, indicated the billionaire.
The first major automaker to suspend advertising on Twitter after the Musk acquisition was General Motors.
“We are engaging with Twitter to understand the direction of the platform under its new ownership,” GM said at the time. He added that “as is the normal course of business with a significant change in a media platform, we have temporarily paused our paid advertising. Our customer support interactions on Twitter will continue.”
Shortly after GM stopped advertisingStellantis followed suit, suspending advertising for all of its brands, including Dodge, RAM, Jeep, Fiat, peugeot Y Alfa Romeo.
The businessman has already admitted that Twitter’s income has suffered a massive drop since he took office on October 27. He further acknowledged that the US$44 billion he paid for the company exceeded its net worth. If he hadn’t had to worry about an impending lawsuit after pulling out of a legally binding deal to buy the social media company, Musk probably wouldn’t have gone ahead with the platform acquisition.
