2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD Debuts With Digital Interior, Fresh Face

Posted on

We’ve known for some time that Chevrolet is revamping its beefy Silverado HD, both inside and out. That day has come, and while you’ll instantly identify the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD by its more welcoming face, the big news is coming from within. That is, for the LT trim level and above as well.

Before getting into the all-new interior, let’s take a look at the exterior changes. The Silverado HD polarizing front clip with the large grille dividing the two headlights has been minimized. In essence, Chevrolet took the C-shaped daytime running lights from the GMC Sierra and flipped them around. The new shape separates the redesigned grille and headlights for a cleaner look, above the new lower fascia with standard edition tow hooks.

The rest of the truck is pretty much the same, although you’ll find the Chevrolet brand on the hood. Six new colors are also offered: Sterling Grey, Dark Ash, Radiant Red, Auburn Metallic, Lakeshore Blue Metallic and Meteorite Metallic. The six-position Multi-Flex tailgate is still an option, and for those who want more HD power in a dedicated off-roader, the new ZR2 will join the lineup. However, Chevrolet isn’t ready to talk about the truck yet.

As mentioned, the interior is a true story for the 2024 Silverado HD. Provided you opt for at least the LT trim level, you’ll get a completely new dashboard that incorporates a configurable 12.3-inch digital display driver. The large, dated center stack on older models is replaced with a cleaner, narrower setup that incorporates a larger 13.4-inch touchscreen. The entire stack tilts slightly toward the driver, a theme that Chevrolet borrowed from classic square-body trucks from the 1970s and 1980s. The console is redesigned with a new cordless phone charger that better retains center console functionality.

In terms of technology, the new Silverado HD gets adaptive cruise control for the trailer. It is designed to take into account the extra mass of the trailer to maintain a suitable safe distance for the vehicle in front. Transparent Trailer Technology is currently being extended to work with gooseneck trailers. Trailer Blind Zone alerts now cover a wider area, and drivers can keep an eye on the road with the available heads-up display. And for those who prefer an analogue experience, Chevrolet retains the physical buttons and knobs for commonly used features.

Under the hood, you’ll still find a 6.6-liter V8 petrol engine or a 6.6-liter Duramax diesel. The Allison 10-speed automatic is now standard transmission for gasoline engines, allowing its gross combined weight rating to increase to 26,000 pounds. As for the turbo diesel, power is up slightly with Chevrolet claiming the Duramax produces around 455 horsepower (339 kilowatts) and 950 pound-feet (1,288 Newton-meters) of torque. The rating is still SAE certified so it is not final. Low-end torque on the diesel is increased by 25 percent for better towing and low-speed operation.

All familiar trim levels return for 2024, including the work-themed WT and Custom pickups. At the other end, the High Country top gets a new High Country Midnight Edition featuring black chrome exterior accents, black badges and black 20-inch alloy wheels.

The Chevrolet Silverado HD 2024 makes its public debut at the State Fair of Texas on September 29. Production will begin in the first half of 2023. Pricing will be announced closer to the start of production.
