2025 Chevrolet Equinox Spying For The First Time

Posted on

The new Chevrolet Equinox is coming, and we’re not talking about the electric version. The next-generation combustion-powered SUV is expected to arrive for the 2024 model year, and new spy photos offer a preview of what’s to come.

It’s clear that the fuel-burning model won’t just be a copy of the Equinox EV that debuted in early 2022. The body retains the familiar Equinox characteristics with window shape and overall beltline, but is beefier than before with boxy proportions. This is especially evident on the D-pillar, where the side glass extends into the roof in a nearly vertical frame, much like the EV Equinox. The current Equinox uses angled glass for a slimmer profile.

We also draw your attention to the front, where the upright face is barely visible through the camouflage. There’s a bit more EV Equinox influence here, especially with the thin daytime running lights up top. Unlike the EV, there’s a large grille to feed the petrol engine. The main headlights are easily visible on either side of the grille. Placeholder taillights at the rear ensured this test vehicle was far from production ready.

Clearly, Chevrolet is following the recent trend of boxier, more rugged SUV designs similar to the new Honda Pilot and Subaru Forester, both of which debuted in the last 18 months. That leaves room for the sleeker Equinox EV to have its own space in the Chevy lineup as a road-focused family hauler.

Regarding power, our sources haven’t heard anything about engine options. Currently, a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder producing 175 horsepower is offered in all Equinox trim levels, turning the front wheels or all four. There’s always the possibility of a new hybrid powertrain joining in.

The Equinox is currently in its third generation, launched in 2016. The mid-cycle update made its debut for the 2021 model year, and the 2023 model is already listed on the Chevrolet website. With this being our first glimpse of the fourth-generation prototype, we’re not expecting a reveal in 2023 at the earliest, it will most likely arrive as a 2024 model year.
