  • Toyota has issued a recall notice affecting 550,007 vehicles.
  • The recall is for the 2021 to 2024 Toyota Highlander and Highlander hybrid.
  • The problem is that the seat back mechanism may not lock.

Toyota was forced to recall more than 550,000 vehicles in the US. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), certain models have a seatback mechanism that may not lock properly into place.

This recall impacts certain Toyota Highlander and Highlander hybrid models, from model years 2021 to 2024. According to NHTSA, the total number of affected vehicles is 550,007 units. Toyota actually sells a tons highlanders. The following models are affected:

  • Toyota Highlander 2021-2024
  • 2021-2024 Toyota Highlander Hybrid

The recalled vehicles have seatbacks that may not lock after you adjust them. This increases the risk of potential injury in an accident—or, in fact, may cause an accident. But the fix seems pretty easy.

Toyota owners can take their Highlander to their local dealer. The service department will replace the return spring on the seat back mechanism for zero dollars. Of course, minus your time and fuel.

But it’s better to take a few moments in your day to make sure your seat stays where you want it.

Motor Pickup1: In this era of seemingly endless recall notifications, this one feels pretty welcoming. Yes, it would be terrible to have a Highlander with seats that don’t work properly. However you may also notice that the seat is not locked properly and as a result avoid potential injury. Plus, the fix sounds like a pretty quick job.
