Thief Steals Ford Mustang, Again, From Flat Rock Assembly Factory

Car theft continues to plague Ford, with thieves getting away with more than a dozen Mustangs last week. It is the latest in a string of brazen thefts targeting automakers in recent months.

Thieves stole 12 to 15 new Mustangs around 2 a.m. on September 13, and police have found two so far, according to Fox 2 Detroit. The incident occurred at Ford’s Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Woodhaven, Michigan. This is the third reported theft from the factory that manufactures the Mustang.

Woodhaven Deputy Chief Constable Jeffrey Brust told Fox 2 that he did not believe this incident was an isolated incident. He told the news station he thought the thieves worked in teams and knew where to find easy targets.

Thieves are also eyeing the Ford F-150 Raptor. In June, police found 13 Raptors that had been stolen from Ford’s Dearborn Truck Factory. Not only did the police find damaged vehicles, but several were reported in different states to be dismantled. In July, thieves attempted to steal more Raptors, but the police were quick to respond. Officers chased one of the vehicles, arrested several people and found the truck and a stolen Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.

Surprisingly, Ford isn’t the only automaker targeted on September 13. In Warren, Michigan, thieves stole at least two Jeep Wagoneers; however, police believe they are looking for at least five or six stolen vehicles. The police managed to find the two, but the suspects managed to escape.

The Flat Rock Assembly Plant had its first heist in December 2021. The thief used one Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 to hit a security gate, allowing the thief to take the other three GT500s without damaging them. Police secured two vehicles that night.

In late August, police arrested a teenager caught trying to steal from a Stellantis stockpile at the company’s Jefferson North Plant in Detroit. The youngest is 11 years old. The kids try to steal the Dodge Charger and Challenger Hellcat models, which will be a scary driving experience for young inexperienced drivers.
