It’s been a long time since the first Ford GT took center stage to highlight the company’s centenary celebrations in 2003. Two decades since the first pre-production car was shown to the public, American supercars are still a sight to behold. Of the more than 4,000 units produced in 2005 and 2006, one example pays a visit to an infinite section of the German Autobahn to sing its V8 tunes. You know what happens next.
AutoTopNL hosted this top speed running attempt on the Autobahn. It didn’t succeed in accomplishing the goal, but the tinny V8 sure made some people turn their heads during the attempt.

The Ford GT in its stock form is not a slow car. The 5.4-liter all-aluminum V8 engine produces 550 horsepower (410 kilowatts) and 500 pound-feet (678 Newton-meters) of torque. That power output is great for sprinting to 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in 3.8 seconds; twice which takes 12.3 seconds. Top speed is rated at 205 mph (330 km/h).
But this is not a stock Ford GT. According to the video, it’s already gone through Stage 1 tuning, which slightly increases the output to 600 hp (447 kW). However, this increase in output does not appear to have affected the performance figures.
Unfortunately, the top speed run video above only shows the Ford GT reaching around 180 mph (290 km/h). This is a little less than what the supercar can achieve, although there are many factors that could have influenced that failed attempt.
Nevertheless, the Ford GT here still shows us that it is still capable of incredible speeds. Better yet, it’s nice to see these precious cars pushed to their limits every now and then and not just stashed in a garage somewhere.
