- Piotto Vogts has completed the Rally dos Sertões several times.
- This event covers nearly 2,200 miles of Brazilian wilderness.
- The 911 Dakar was the first Porsche to participate in this dangerous event.
When Porsche first announced the 911 Dakar, most assumed the car would end up in the hands of people who would never get their expensive vehicle dirty. Even though it’s his car literally named after the legendary off-road rally.
However, not all 911 Dakar buyers are satisfied with their local Car and Coffee options. Brazil’s Piotto Vogt family, for example, recently used their 911 Dakar to complete the extremely difficult Rally dos Sertões. This marks the first time Porsche has participated in a long off-road adventure.

This rally was first launched in 1993. It is considered one of the toughest events in South America, usually carried out on motorbikes, side-by-sides and quads. Susele and her husband, Fredy, have competed in previous events using side-by-side. This time, they predicted the 911 Dakar would be the perfect vehicle for racing.
To complete the rally, Piotto Vogts (with their son João Pedro) covered almost 2,100 miles from start to finish. It’s just a rally track; however, the travel total includes long trips to and from the race. Overall, the family logged more than 4,600 miles on the Dakar’s odometer over the course of two weeks.
A support SUV was also in tow, but the rally was otherwise run with this rumble-ready 911. The family slept in rooftop tents, traversed water crossings, and really put the car to the test.
Motor Pickup1: Seeing a custom-built vehicle used as it should is is always fun to watch. But when that vehicle is a rally-ready 911, things get even better. Often, cars like this end up in closed garages where not a single tire burns out in anger.
The Piotto Vogt family understands why cars like the 911 Dakar exist, and we give them credit for surviving this incredible challenge.
