A spectacular accident took place on a highway in Orlando, USAwhere a Land Rover Defender violently overturns on the road after colliding with a Mazda CX-5 trying not to miss the exit.
Fortunately, despite the severity of the crash, the driver and passengers of the Defend they ended up with minor injuries, something that highlights the high safety standards of modern vehicles.
Video shows how a Land Rover Defender overturns violently
The defend 110 gray car was driving fast in the right lane of I-4 West in Orlando, when the driver of the Mazda CX-5 blue color decided to cut three lanes without warning in order to get out. However, a truck blocked the view making a collision between these two SUVs inevitable. The angle of the crash sent the Defend to fly through the air, with the Mazda acting as a ramp.
The Defend it ended up violently capsizing about five or six times, sending debris everywhere. The all terrain it even flew over the concrete wall separating the road and ended up in the oncoming lane. Luckily, oncoming traffic stopped in time, preventing a chain reaction that would lead to something much worse.
Generally, it is considered that SUVs and SUVs are safer due to its elevated seating position and commanding road presence. But, they also have a high center of gravity which makes them more prone to rollover accidents like this one.
Still, the one-piece chassis of the land rover it proved its strength, keeping the cockpit intact despite taking multiple hits from various angles. The driver and passengers escaped with only minor injuries, as they all wore seat belts. The vehicle, on the other hand, was left as a wreck, missing wheels and severe damage to all body panels.
The video was part of a crash compilation that was originally uploaded to YouTube by MegaDrivingSchool and later re-uploaded by the New Defender Mods channel. Several comments praised the SUV’s passive safety and said they would consider buying one for this reason.
