The wait for many petrolheads has finally come to an end. After months of delay, the Toyota GR86 is officially on sale in Spain with a highly suggestive recipe that speaks of sensations and sportsmanship at an affordable price, although somewhat less affordable than what we were initially told. However, with limited production and an endangered formula, The Toyota GR86 is undoubtedly the last opportunity offered by the market to buy a sports car at a reasonable price..

Back in November 2021 we had the privilege of being one of the first to get behind the wheel of this new generation, an in-depth video analysis of the Toyota GR86 where we reveal all the changes and improvements to this sports car. However, marketing in Spain has been a long time coming, starting now with a very simple range where there is only one mechanical configuration, one level of equipment, two improvement packs and three colors for the exterior.

The Toyota GR86 has a price that starts from 34,900 euros, which first of all already represents a price increase of 2,000 compared to the price with which it was officially presented in May of this year. Even so, the first 50 customers who reserve their GR86 will be eligible for a discount of 2,000 euros. Of the 3 paints available, only the white one does not add an additional cost, since paint the GR86 black or red will have an extra price of 1,000 euros.

The cheapest Toyota GR86 starts at 34,900 euros, the most equipped goes up to 41,400 euros

And we come to the most interesting section of this new GR86, which is the one that refers to the improvement packages for the running gear, taking into account that the series model mounts 17″ aluminum alloy wheels with Michelin Primacy tires HP in size 215/45 R17.First of all we have a “Touring Pack” for 3,500 euros which adds 18″ aluminum alloy wheels painted in gloss black, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires in 225/40 R18 sizes and PAGID brake pads on the original brake equipment. In second place we find a “Circuit Pack” for 6,500 euros where the wheels are forged aluminum BRAID, the tires are semi-slick Michelin Pilot Sport CUP2 in 225/40 R18 measurements and an AP Racing brake system is installed with 6-piston fixed calipers and 350 mm grooved discs on the front end. Both packs have also increased their price with respect to the rates announced in May.

Engine, transmission and suspensions do not undergo any modification in any of the three possible configurations that we can buy the Toyota GR86, although opting for the installation of the offered packs will depend on the type of driving we want to do with this car. Thus, The heart of the GR86 is an naturally aspirated 2.4-liter 4-cylinder boxer engine that is capable of developing 235 hp250 Nm and stretching up to 7,500 rpm. The transmission is a 6-speed manual.being connected to the rear axle through a self-locking differential.

At the level of driving, sensations and price, the Toyota GR86 is a sports car without rival in the market

Taking into account the philosophy and price of the Toyota GR86, the reality is that there is no competition for this car in Europe., because his twin brother in the form of the Subaru BRZ will not be sold in our market. The possible alternatives to the Toyota GR86 come to life through very different cars, being the Mazda MX-5 the closest alternative that we can find. Having said that, when considering alternatives to the Toyota GR86 from a price point of view, we have the Mazda MX-5 RF 2.0 with 184 CV for 38,465 euros, a BMW 230i Coupé 2.0 Turbo with 245 CV for 47,700 euros or a CUPRA León 2.0. 245 CV TSI for 42,675 euros… although we insist that in terms of sensations and approach, none comes close to the purist concept defended by the GR86, hence its exclusivity for both good and bad.
