A student of the Brandeis University loses his life and 27 more end up injured after bus accident in Waltham, Boston.
Bus accident leaves one dead, several injured
The student of the Brandeis University, Vanessa Markdied and more than 24 other students suffered various injuries after a university bus crashed in Waltham on Saturday night.

Middlesex District Attorney, Marian Ryan, and the Waltham Police Chief, Kevin O’Connell, indicated that the bus was returning to campus after a hockey game at the Northeastern University when after losing control of the unit, the driver collided with a tree on South Street around 10:30 p.m.
However, the school said the bus was operating as part of a regular transportation loop to Cambridge and Boston.
Investigations are being carried out to determine the cause of the accident. “It’s completely under investigation right now,” said the Waltham fire chief, Andrew Mullin.
A witness reported that the unit took several trees and then heard screaming. The unit was destroyed after the strong impact.
“A student was pronounced dead at the scene. The remaining 26 students and the bus driver suffered varying degrees of injuries and were transported to area hospitals.” they said Ryan and O’Connell in his statement. “No charges have been filed.”
The president of Brandeis, Ron Liebowitz, said Mark it was “currently on leave”, adding that he lived in Waltham and “He was an active and valued member of the Brandeis community.”
“We have been in contact with Vanessa’s family and will continue to be in contact with them in the coming days, and will keep them informed about the ways in which we will honor Vanessa’s memory,” said liebowitz in a letter to campus on Sunday.
“Given the number of injured and the different hospitals they were transported to, it takes time to determine the status of everyone involved, including the passengers who are Brandeis students.”said the university spokeswoman, Julie Jettein an email.
I know that sadness over last night’s fatal ferry accident is spreading through our community today. We are all experiencing the shock of such a terrible accident, and everyone’s recovery will take time.” said Liebowitz.
Adding to the difficulty of assimilating such painful news is the fact that we all have many unanswered questions at this time. We have been working with Waltham Police as the accident is investigated and will continue to be in close contact with the department. Nothing is more important than the safety of our students, and we are committed to learning as much as we can about how this happened. University leaders will continue to share information as we learn more.”

Jette indicated that the university notified students, faculty and staff about the accident and that they are “providing advice and support to students.”
Given the tragedy our community is experiencing, Brandeis has canceled classes scheduled for Monday and Tuesday (November 21 and 22). This will allow some students to return to family and friends sooner than normal vacation hours would have allowed. For students who will remain on campus, we will have additional opportunities to meet and receive support.” said Jette.
“It’s really scary for me because I’m a person who uses the shuttle from Boston to Cambridge frequently. A lot of times I use it to go see my brother in Boston or he comes here to see me, and just to think if one of us was on that bus, it’s incredibly, incredibly disturbing.” said Draken Garfinkellast year student of the Brandeis University.

A vigil will be held Sunday night at 7 in the campus chapel.
