When a vehicle enters the ‘Green Hell’, it is logical to expect a whole soundtrack made up of the sound of the engines, the tires or the brakes. That’s how it continues… until electric cars have made an appearance on the famous German track. The last one to drop by there has been the KIA EV6 GT, which has imposed its law (and that of silence) at the Nürburgring.
The most performance electric vehicles can boast of brutal acceleration. Albert Biermann, former head of Hyundai N, announced in his day that the KIA EV6 GTIt would be a ridiculously fast car: but what about its ability on the track? Answer this question in a video L’Arguswhere, for around eight minutes, he pushes the limits around the Nürburgring corners.
at 225 km/h
Until now, we had seen the KIA EV6 GT drive on the Autobahn reaching and exceeding its maximum speed (260 km/h) in unrestricted sections. We have also witnessed his battle against a Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, which he lost by a second. Now the time has come to face the ‘Green Hell’.
During its foray into the Nürburgring, the KIA EV6 GT easily exceeds 100 km/h for most of the fastest lap. However, in several lines, he allows himself the luxury of accelerating at full speed to get 225 km/h to appear on the speedometer.
a silent turn
It should be remembered that we are talking about one of the most performance-focused electric cars. KIA has chosen for it a series of improvements compared to the standard model and although it has not promoted it as a vehicle designed, in part, for the circuits, it does have weapons for it: its two electric motors generate a total power of 577 hp and a maximum torque of 740 Nm.
Precisely, thanks to that power (which is 80% higher than that of the next most powerful variant, the KIA EV6 GT-Line AWD) and its instantaneous torque, It does not ruffle when it comes to surpassing the BMW, Porsche 911 and Mercedes-AMG GT: so much so that it seems that they are practically stopped. The video manages to convey the feeling of acceleration of the electric as it tries to reach its maximum speed every time the driver steps on the accelerator.
However, this is not the most interesting thing about the lap that the KIA EV6 GT draws at the Nürburgring: it is the silence that reigns and that is only broken by the screeching of the tires, the noise from the interior… and the science fiction sound that the car itself produces when it accelerates hard and it seems that, instead of facing the next corner, it is going to take off.
