The last and painful victim of the activists: a BMW M1 made art by Andy Warhol (+ video)

That we must act in the face of climate change is a reality, but there are ways and means of doing it. Personally I don’t think it helps at all to vandalize works of art in the form of protest or vandalize cars or private property; the situation will not change. And that is why it pains me to see how a BMW M1 made art courtesy of Andy Warhol -although the M1 itself can be considered art- is sprinkled with flour by a group of activists.

The events took place on November 18 at the Fabbrica del Vapore, Milan, where the M1 was on display. We are talking about a car valued at 10 million euros, not only for being the German sports car and all that this implies, but also for wearing a painting created by Andy Warhol in 1979.

The latest victim of the activists has been the BMW M1 painted by Andy Warhol

This particular unit participated in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the same year that the New York artist printed his art on it. In that race, the BMW M1 achieved a more than creditable sixth place, showing his good work on the track to later show his good work as a work of art.

And that is why it hurts to throw eight kilos of flour on it, an act that is not going to stop climate change or make more people aware of it, especially by trying to do it through of vandalism. Fortunately, the incident has not caused any major damage to the car, leaving as a result a cleaning task.

We say fortunately because the damage could have been of high magnitudes. And it is that in case the flour had somehow sneaked into the 3.5-liter six-cylinder the problem would have been considerably greater, as well as if Andy Warhol’s painting had somehow been affected.
